“Everything’s a war,” says Alex Jones in the trailer for the new documentary Alex’s War. “That’s the way the universe works. And everything is propaganda.”
The film by director Alex Lee Moyer looks to paint a nuanced portrait of a man described by others in the trailer as “fake” and a “performance artist.” A press release says the film benefitted from “Jones’ first ever independent long-form interviews, behind the scenes footage” and “full access to the Infowars archives.”
Alex’s War is Moyer’s second feature after TFW No GF, a nonjudgmental look at incels (or the “involuntary celibate”) that became a sleeper hit out of SXSW 2020.
The film covers Jones’ early embrace of conspiracy theories, his attacks on President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama, and former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, and, recently, his involvement in the events of January 6. He is seen marching with pro-Trump protestors and then shouting into a bullhorn outside of the capitol.
Alex’s War also promises to cover the Sandy Hook comments that contributed to Jones being removed by YouTube, Facebook and other platforms. Jones called the Sandy Hook shooting — in which 20 children and six adult staff were killed — a “deep state false flag operation.”
He later admitted that wasn’t true.
Jones was found liable by default last year in a defamation lawsuit brought by Sandy Hook parents over his false claims. This month, a court rejected a case seeking bankruptcy protection for InfoWars and two other companies controlled by Jones.
“I try to tell the truth and sometimes I’m wrong,” Jones says in the trailer, before suggesting that the New York Times isn’t held accountable for its mistakes.
Donald Trump also makes an appearance in the trailer, telling Jones on his live Infowars show, “Your reputation is amazing. I will not let you down.”
Alex’s War will have a limited theatrical run in New York, Los Angeles, and Austin, before it is released on demand July 29.
